About Us
The Friends of The Scala Cinema and Arts Centre are dedicated to supporting Prestatyn's much loved Scala Cinema and Arts Centre. Here you can learn more about our organisation, who we are and what we aim to do.
The Friends of the Scala Cinema and Arts Centre
The Committee Group are responsible for the day to day campaigning, fund raising and support for the Prestatyn's Scala Cinema. We work closely with the residents of Prestatyn and the surrounding districts, Denbighshire County Council and the Scala Advisory group.
We're made up of similar minded community people from all walks of life and backgrounds, keen to make sure the Scala is re-built in its existing location. Once the cinema is re-opened, we will assist with its running. We're known as the Friends of the Scala but to be more accurate our title is Friends of the Scala Arts Centre (FOSAC), reflecting the inclusion of theatrical and arts based performances and exhibitions which we hope will one day be presented at a newly re-opened Scala.
We also raise money as well as public awareness. In 2006, with the assistance of sponsors covering expenses such as rent and electricity, we opened a temporary shop in one of the spare units below the existing Scala building to raise funds for the Friends of the Scala. It was hugely successful and we hope to repeat its success in the near future. We also raise money and public awareness of the Scala each year at Prestatyn's wonderful Carnival, with a uniquely themed Scala float.

The Scala Advisory Group
The Scala Advisory Group is a separate entity to the Friends of the Scala Cinema and Arts Centre. It was set up in 2001 with representation from all key interests in the community. The Advisory Group provides a sounding board and a steering representation for Denbighshire County Council's views on the project. The Friends of the Scala work closely with the Scala Advisory Group and they forwarded information on to Denbighshire County Council's Cabinet.
