Feb 13th Opening Date Confirmed

Prestatyn, UK, 28th January 2009. The long awaited opening of the Scala Cinema and Arts Centre in Prestatyn was confirmed today as Friday 13th February 2009. New General Manager Chris Bond confirmed that the £3.5m centre would open for business as Wales' first all digital cinema on Friday 13th February 2009. The opening night will kick off with a 5.30pm performance of Oscar nominated Disney movie Bolt starring John Travolta and Miley Cyrus. Also on the bill for the first week of opening are the hotly tipped Slumdog Millionaire and the Tom Cruise historical epic Valkyrie.

"We're delighted to be able to confirm the opening night for The Scala and look forward to opening the doors and showing off the venue for the first time." said Bond. I know that once the public have the opportunity to see the new venue they will be as excited as all those involved in the project are to finally see it open."

A veteran of the entertainment industry whose experience includes the National Theatre, RSC, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC, Chris is a local man who as a child was a member of the Little Theatre Rhyl and also the Flintshire Youth Theatre."I have always wanted to have the opportunity to come back to Prestatyn so taking up the position at the Scala of which I have so many fond memories is wonderful. I feel privileged to be part of it."
The centre which has been funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, Prestatyn Town Council, Denbighshire County Council, The Arts Council for Wales, the Foundation for Sports and the Arts and the UK Film Council has a proud history dating back to 1910 but was closed in 2000. Following a vigorous campaign to create a new arts centre work formally began in 2007.

The Scala will offer two 150 seat auditoria both with state of the art high definition digital projection systems one of which will also offer live performance space. In addition there will be community rooms available for meetings, training and a café bar. The centre will also offer a media suite available for training and hire. It is hoped that the facility will be a major cultural and entertainment destination for North Wales.


Delight As Scala Opens Its Doors
Delight all around as the long awaited opening night of the Scala counts down. With three hot films on the bill tonight, Bolt, Slumdog Millionaire and Valkyrie the Scala is declaring its intention from the outset to show the newest and best cinema releases. General Manager Chris Bond says, "We're all a little nervous obviously, but we're well trained and we all know the goodwill towards the Scala there is out there. It's going to be a fantastic evening."
