Brief history of the Choir

FLINT MALE VOICE CHOIR  The choir was formed in 1975, and at first to be a choral society of mixed voices, however as the number of ladies declined andthe men increased, it was decided to form the FLINT MALE VOICE CHOIR,and so it has remained.  The choir made its first trip abroad in 1985 when the town of Flint was twinnedwith Menden in Germany to sing the Menden Police Choir. Now the choir organise trips abroad every 2 years and have visited AUSTRIA, CZECH REPUBLIC,FRANCE, GERMANY,and MALTA. In 1997 we were the Welsh representatives at the INTERCELTIC FESTIVAL in LORIENT, where we took part in in the first performance of the CELTIC EPIC by Eddie McGuire, and for the second performance at the Glasgow Celtic Festival in 1999. In 2001 we returned to LORIENT and had a resounding success, it seemed that the audiences had been waiting for just such a return and their enthusiasm knew no bounds as the choir sang to huge and appreciative audiences. Following this success the choir have appeared 3 times at the STADE DE FRANCE when the INTERCELTIC FESTIVAL has been staged there, and have appeared in RENNES in Brittany where the festival was once again a tremendous success  The choir was delighted to be among the singers selected to perform at the MILLENIUM DOME OPENING CELEBRATIONS on NEW YEARS EVE 1999,the audience of 10,000 included THE QUEEN and PRINCE PHILIP, THE PRIME MINISTER and Mrs Blair, among many celebrities from all walks of life. To have been chosen for this auspicious occasion from all the male choirs in the country is a tribute to our organisation.  Competition successes include 2 NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD WINS,PLACED AT LLANGOLLEN INTERNATIONAL, and many more across the country, including BEST MALE CHOIR AT S4Cs COR CYMRU 2007, and again in the last 4 male choirs 2009, also an excellent THIRD PLACE 2009 NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD at BALA.  The choir is conducted by HUW DUNLEY who brings to the music a unique blend of youthfull enthusiasm, with typical WELSH BRAVURA and HWYL. He took over the choir in 2006 after being deputy for previous 2 years, his aim is to improve the singing and sound so as to take the next steps towards the recognition the choit deserves. The choir 2 accompanists, EIRLYS HAF JONES who was amongst the founder members A TRUE AND LOYAL SERVANT, ALED WYN EDWARDS is the regular CONCERT ACCOMPANIST and DEPUTY CONDUCTOR.
